President Museveni Gives UGX100 Million and 250 Sheep to Teso Journalists
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has pledged a donation of Uganda Shillings 100 million, media van and 250 sheep to journalists from the Teso region.
The President made this announcement during a meeting with the journalists at Soroti State Lodge.
The donation, according to President Museveni, is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to empower local communities and support the development of the media sector.
“Journalists play a vital role in shaping public opinion and advancing the cause of national development,” the President said, emphasizing that the contribution would go towards uplifting the livelihoods of the journalists and their families.
In addition to the monetary donation and livestock, President Museveni promised to sponsor journalists from the region to visit his farms.
The visit, he noted, would provide the journalists with an opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge about the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ideology, particularly in the areas of social-economic transformation through commercial and extensive agriculture.
The sponsorship, Museveni explained, would allow the journalists to see how large-scale farming and modern agricultural practices can contribute to sustainable development and economic growth, particularly in rural areas.
“We want our people, including journalists, to understand how agriculture can transform the economy. Our government is committed to supporting agricultural innovation and growth, and the media plays a key role in spreading this message,” he added.
The President also assured the journalists that the government would continue to prioritize their welfare, recognizing their role in informing the public and fostering national unity.
Journalists from the Teso region expressed their gratitude for the gesture, noting that the support would go a long way in enhancing their work and contributing to the development of the region.
Samuel Odongo the head of Teso Journalists SACCO hailed President Museveni for support.
